Cinque Terre
The five compact settlements of the Cinque Terre are seen colorfully hanging from the cliffs amongst vineyards and olive groves. Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are all united by the Blue trails. The namesake National Park includes territory of exceptional natural and scenic beauty. In 1997 with the request of the province of La Spezia, the Cinque Terre, together with Porto Venere and the Palmaria Islands, Tino and Tinetto, were included in the patrimony of mankind of UNESCO. In 1999 the Cinque Terre National Park was instituted to promote conservation of theological balance in order to defend the landscape and safeguard its anthropological worth.
The trail that unites the Cinque Terre offers one of the most renowned hiking trails in all of Italy where you will meet hikers form all over the world.
The trail passes through one of the steepest and wild stretches of the Liguraian coast where you can discover the skill of the countrymen and farmers who have constructed their vineyards on scarce terraced land held up by hand-laid stone walls.
The famous Via dell’amore is dug into the cliff overhanging the sea and connects the village of Riomaggiore to that of Manarola.
